Foxtrot class in February coming up!

If you are a new dancer looking for a fun and easy dance to get you started, or an experienced dancer seeking new challenges, please join our foxtrot class in February at Madison Studio. We will be offering a series of three 1-hour classes in American-style foxtrot:

  • Tuesday, February 9 8:15 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 16 8:15 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 23 8:15 p.m.

Class will start at 8:15 but feel free to come a few minutes early and practice in Studio B.  Total cost for the month is $45 per person (cash or check).

No partner required; we will switch partners during the classes so that everyone has someone to dance with. Dress casually, but we recommend hard-soled shoes. Women should wear shoes with straps and/or a closed back.

Please email laura@dldancers.com no later than February 5 to confirm your participation! Under-enrolled classes will be cancelled, so please confirm even if you have attended our classes before.

See you soon to have fun with the foxtrot! We are also available for private lessons; email laura@dldancers.com for rates and scheduling.

What we’re up to this week

Oh MAN, October is flying by. It’s already been 2 weeks since we got back from the Carolina Fall Classic (I’m about to update our Competitive Highlights page; stand by) and a week since I got to take a workshop and private lesson with a new instructor for us, James. Can’t wait to work with him again tomorrow. We’re also rehearsing with Denise Froemeke for the Kay Center’s Dancing for the Stars event in November. She and Daniel have come up with a really cute routine and I have the perfect dress for her to wear! Oh–AND–we are teaching for Mercer University’s ballroom club this coming Monday as well. Busy Busy Dancers and we love it!

Okay–going to post this update now and get some other photos, videos, and posts up later today and tomorrow. Stay tuned and check back soon. Thanks!

What we’re up to this week

Counting the days till our performance at the Tubman Museum’s International Taste of Soul on August 30! We have our dances and our music picked out, and my new Latin costume has come from Latino Dancewears. I promise they are not compensating me to say this (yet!) but I have been impressed with the quick and responsive service that this company provides. They do custom made-to-measure dresses with high quality stones but they also have more economical options including a great sale section.

This week ends our Tuesday night waltz class at Madison Studio. Starting September 8 we’ll be teaching bronze level cha-cha on Tuesday nights; we are also featuring silver level cha-cha and tango workshops on Sunday, September 20. You can email if you’d like more information or to sign up for any of our classes and workshops.

And, of course, Friday is our monthly dance at Howard Community Club! 8:00-10:30 p.m., $5 admission, casual dress, bring your song requests. Daniel has been picking out new songs from Postmodern Jukebox and I’m trying to do my part finding cool things on the radio like this or this.

Finally, I’d like to give a shout-out to my dear colleague Sydney Chalfa, whose son Matthew is getting married next weekend. Sydney and Matthew took a lesson from us last week and they are dancing the rumba for their mother-son dance! Congratulations to the happy couple and a very proud mother of the groom!

What we’re up to lately

We’ll be attending the Summer’s Night Picnic & Dance at Macon City Auditorium tomorrow night. This event is a fundraiser for Pine Pointe Hospice and thus an heir (so to speak) to the Stars Over Macon Ball for which USA Dance Greater Macon was a co-sponsor. I’ve heard that the event is sold out, but they are still advertising, so tickets may still be available.

On August 30 we will be performing at the Tubman African-American Museum’s International Taste of Soul event. The only question here is whether we’ll be able to stop eating long enough to dance! Seriously though, this will be our first time performing at the Tubman so we are very excited and honored.

Next month (September 12) we’ll be dancing an exhibition at USA Dance Greater Macon’s monthly dance in honor of National Ballroom Month. We are choreographing a new rumba routine for the occasion. This is the music we are using–we love it!

We are also back to teaching group classes on Tuesday nights as well as private lessons. Tuesday night group class will continue in September and a silver level class may be added on Thursdays at 8 p.m. Would you like a silver level class? Leave a comment and let us know!

Dancing in the Shadows

Daniel and I were very excited to début at Shadows Dinner Theatre tonight as part of their monthly Date Night event. This gorgeous downtown venue (on 2nd Street between Poplar and Cherry) hosts interactive murder mystery dinners, private events for corporations, parties, and birthdays, and a special couples’ evening once a month–that’s Date Night. Couples share an intimate, elegant dinner in a romantic atmosphere,  have a professional photo taken to commemorate their evening, and enjoy a “date night” activity.  The couples present tonight got to learn the rumba from Daniel and me.  Everybody including us had a great time and we are already looking forward to teaching again next month.  Date Night is every third Saturday and the owner of Shadows has assured me that the website will be updated by Monday with November’s events. As soon as the calendar is set, you can book online via their Events page.  Be quick quick, not slow to check it out because seatings are limited.

Ballroom workshops & lessons coming up

As members of USA Dance Greater Macon chapter 6059, we are very excited that the chapter is bringing professional instructor Josh Jones to Macon for two hours of workshops on Saturday, October 12 at the Howard Community Club. Josh is a National Dance Council of America (NDCA) certified instructor who holds Highly Commended Licentiate and Associate qualifications in International (Standard) Ballroom, as well as a Highly Commended Associate qualification in American Smooth Ballroom from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). He will teach American Smooth Tango at 10:00 a.m. and American Rhythm Cha-cha at 11:00 a.m.  Each workshop is $20 or you can attend both for $35. Plus if you attend both workshops you can also attend the chapter’s monthly dance that evening for free! It doesn’t get much better than that.  I will be there for sure!

Meanwhile we’ve been working with our group class at Madison Studio on the rumba and it’s going great. It turns out that martial artists make excellent dancers (did you know?). This winter we’ll be scheduling our group classes around the studio’s rehearsals for Alice, a version of the Alice in Wonderland story. So if you are interested in joining a group class please let us know so we can verify dates and times. Private lessons are also available and remember: no partner needed.

Stay tuned for more dance, music, and fun coming up soon!
